John Berryhill, Speaker at NamesCon

John Berryhill

John Berryhill started his career in intellectual property after obtaining a doctorate in electrical engineering, and primarily worked on patent matters in that field.  During the first internet boom in the late 1990’s his technical background provided a insightful perspective on emerging legal issues, including domain name disputes prior to the founding of ICANN.  He was among very few attorneys with the ability and willingness to defend domain name investors, and has represented domain registrants in hundreds of issued UDRP decisions.  He has represented many of the pioneers of domaining such as Yun Ye, Frank Schilling, Marchex and others. He has established hard-won precedents on key issues which led to recognition of domain investing as a legitimate enterprise, and he holds the record for reverse domain hi-jacking decisions in favor of his clients.  Dr. Berryhill also advises domain registrars and registries on ICANN compliance and new gTLD matters, and has served on various ICANN working groups and committees.
