Jason Schaeffer, Intellectual Property and Domain Name Counsel at ESQwire.com P.C.

Jason Schaeffer

Before the advent of Instagram and Twitter, Jason was helping Fortune 100 brands like NFL Properties and Pfizer protect their trademarks and police their online presence. Since then, he’s worked in the domain name industry, becoming a leader in protecting and selling some of the world’s most premier .COM domain names and domain name portfolios.

Jason has handled nearly 200 Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (“UDRP”) Disputes, and on the domain recovery side, he’s and helped many famous artists, former Gov. George Pataki, and other businesses secure their assets.

Over the past 15 years he’s managed over $150M in domain transactions and worked with many popular consumer brands and companies like Meta, Google, and L’Oréal Group. He’s an active member of ICANN working groups focused on rights protection mechanisms. As part of his ICANN work, Jason represents registry operators taking them from application to launch and is familiar with all aspects of the ICANN process. Jason successfully resolved one of the most sought-after (and most contentious) TLDs, .MUSIC. Once the TLD was secured, Jason worked with technical teams, and developed policy and strategy with music industry stakeholders (like the RIAA, Warner, Universal and A2IM) to create the first TLD with IP safeguards where registrants are verified, and music can be sold, shared, and distributed in a manner that benefits the creators, protecting their brand and intellectual property.
