Ray King has been starting companies since high school, when he convinced adults to pay him to teach them how to use a computer. His next venture, Semaphore, Inc., was built during his sophomore year at M.I.T. and grew to over 100 employees and #1 in its space.
He then traded New York City for Portland to co-found SnapNames.com, pioneering new ways to acquire domain names and growing it to $49M in annual revenue before its 2007 acquisition. At that point a normal person might have done something else, but Ray fell deep into the domain world and never came up for air.
Today he's CEO of Porkbun, a domain registrar managing over 3 million domains and rated #1 by Forbes Advisor and USA Today. He previously founded Top Level Design, operating domain extensions including .wiki, .ink, .gay, .design, and .tattoo. He also directs ICANNWiki, a 501(c)(3) cataloging the domain name ecosystem for the handful of people who find that sort of thing fascinating.
When not at his desk, he tends to a farm in Sherwood, Oregon that somehow still has no pig.
