Describe your company and how long you have been there?
I have worked at GoDaddy for almost 8 years and have spent 3 of those at Afternic. The Aftermarket Division of GoDaddy is dedicated to helping Domain Investors have success, through acquiring, managing and selling their domain names.
What can attendees look forward to during your session?
We will be using GoDaddy Aftermarket data to point out industry trends and how they can be used to increase your domain sales.
What would you like attendees to learn or take away from your session?
Attendees should leave with a greater understanding on how to leverage their resources, both those at GoDaddy/Afternic and elsewhere, to increase their overall revenue.
Can you tell us about how your service or product helps deliver value to your customers?
Afternic is the world’s largest domain marketplace. As a domain investor you can list your domains in one place and then we handle the rest. With our extensive reseller network of partners we put your domains in front of end-users and leverage our world-class sales team to help you maximize your overall revenue.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I lived in Bolivia and Peru for two years, often in places with no electricity or running water. I had some experience with domains before this, but it was my Spanish-speaking ability — which I learned while living down there — that resulted in me working for GoDaddy; I was brought in to help start the first bilingual Sales and Support team. Chances are if I never lived in Bolivia then, I would not be here today doing what I am doing now.
What was one of your biggest “Aha!” moments in life?
In kindergarten I had a speech impediment which prevented me from properly pronouncing my R’s. One day I had a marvellous “Aha!” moment when I realized that if I told people I was from Boston, then I would be the “cool kid with the Boston accent” rather than the “kid who can’t pronounce his R’s.” This radically changed the course of my life, since in order to pass as a Bostonian I naturally had to cheer for the Red Sox. This decision, made as a kindergartener, ultimately resulted in setting myself up to take a position at Afternic in Boston following the acquisition by GoDaddy.
Where is your favourite place to escape?
Acadia National Park. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
“Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.” -John Wooden
What object would you put in a time capsule that best represents who you are today?
A picture of my family at a basketball game.
