We’d like to thank everyone who joined us for the HEXONET Boat Cruise on August 18! What better way to experience the Vancouver skyline and mountains than an evening cruise through the Burrard Inlet, set to the music of DJ STATN (aka Statton Hammock at Rightside). The MV Harbour Princess made its way up to the glacial fjord at Indian Arm and attendees were treated to a dazzling sunset with a view from the open upper deck and floor-to-ceiling windows on the main berth.
The HEXONET and NamesCon teams were very happy to welcome attendees from the domain industry and beyond, with a special thanks to the ‘Domain Expert Panel’ participants Kevin Kopas (PIR), Amanda Fessenden (Uniregistry), Daniel Schindler (Donuts), Marc Gawith (Rightside), and Tony Kim of HEXONET, with regrets from Chris Campbell of Afilias who was unable to attend.
Moderated by NamesCon founder Richard Lau, panelists shared their personal stories of how they came to be involved in the domain industry and discussed how the industry needs to come together behind joint marketing efforts to bring more awareness about new TLDs to the general public. Each of the panelists agreed that unity between companies – potentially even in the form of commercially bundling TLDs among different registries – is needed to communicate the value of creative TLD marketing and online identities to a wider marketplace. We filmed the panel live on Periscope and the video is still available for viewing if you’d like to enjoy the full discussion.
Congratulations to Jordan De Vuyst of Strata Living, the winner of the 13” MacBook Pro Retina prize, generously awarded by Kelly Campbell of the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA).
