Describe your company and how long you have been there?
Founded in 2001 in Cologne Sedo is the biggest marketplace for Premium Domains worldwide. I was Sedo’s 12th customer and a domainer early on before I started working for Sedo. I was first introduced to Sedo during their beginnings as a startup company. From the customer viewpoint I witnessed various company milestones and products developed including: the marketplace, growth in the parking business, establishment of new offices in Boston and London, trustworthy appraisals for sellers and buyers and secure transfer services. I experienced firsthand how the Sedo support staff were always available when it came to buying, selling, negotiating and getting the job done! Three years ago I transitioned from loyal customer to team member to manage the Marketing and PR department, bringing along my expertise in both domaining and marketing to my new role.
Can you tell us about your last time at NamesCon and what you got out of it?
This will be my third NamesCon and I have not only enjoyed myself but found this conference unique and beneficial to attend. It is first conference of the year where everyone comes with new and fresh ideas spurring lively conversations while offering the best opportunity to meet with our business partners and present Sedo’s marketing approach for the upcoming year. As a neutral player Sedo depends on the support of our business partners and the best way to interact with them is at NamesCon. Last year I was able to present our SXSW 2015 engagement proposal and I received tremendous feedback and support which led us moving full steam ahead at the event in Austin. SXSW 2016 will be bigger and better with additional ideas and options for domain names to be shared with a large scale audience. Without NamesCon it would be much more difficult to reach our partners individually, this event provides the opportunity to engage with these contacts in person all in one place.
NamesCon is all about business networking. Can you tell us a story about the success of a meeting at NamesCon?
The SXSW story I just mentioned is just one of many stories resulting in a successful outcome. But more often the opportunities to speak directly to fellow attendees in a relaxed but professional environment paves the way for businesses for the future.
Can you tell us about how your service or product helps deliver value to your customers?
Sedo has the “most complete” portfolio of products around domain names – marketplace, individual brokerage, appraisals, transfer services, domain parking, consulting and – the biggest advantage – these services are all being handled by a multilingual, multicultural highly educated, experienced and trustworthy staff. Sedo is a neutral partner and our aim is to deliver the best domain names for businesses and individuals alike. It could be a .com or .de name – but as we have encountered with the introduction of new generic domain names a .bike, .club or .beer could work much better within a company’s marketing and branding strategy. What are your thoughts on the new TLDs?
I believe they are here to stay but we must look at them in the bigger scheme of how to promote domains in general. Domains should be viewed like emails or even oxygen – they are obvious parts of our daily life. But what needs to be driven home is that a great domain name can revolutionize your business, save money on advertising and rank your website higher within SEO results. We focus on creating awareness about the benefits of investing in quality domain names.
Who would you like to hear speak at NamesCon? Why?
Lance Armstrong. I’m a cycling enthusiast, plus it’s interesting to hear from people who have not only achieved great things but have experienced failure, too.
What fact about you would surprise people?
That I surprise people! I can be pretty unpredictable – and speaking of, thanks to my team that they support this unpredictability!
How would you describe what you do in a single sentence to a stranger?
I am looking to expand upon who recognizes the importance of domains and I aim to bridge the gap among the types of people interested in domains – obtaining a quality domain name should be something every individual website owner up to multinational corporation considers at some point.
If you had fifteen extra minutes each day, what would you do with them?
Spend more time with my wife and teenage children.
Who has been the biggest influence on your life? What lessons did that person teach you?
My father, he ingrained in me his way of life, strong work ethic and how to really enjoy life by not taking for granted the small pleasures.
What are you proudest of in your life?
The births of my two children.

Passport, iPhone and Credit Cards (a bicycle is usually too large to carry on a plane)
Where is your favourite place to escape?
On my bicycle, I ride to and from work every day and also compete in road races.
