Describe your company and how long you have been there?
I founded it with my partner Natalia Viera. We have been running it for almost nine years now.
Can you tell us about how your service or product helps deliver value to your customers?
Our service is all you may require about domains in Latin America and the Caribbean.
What are your thoughts on the new TLDs?
Only few will survive.
What are you most looking forward to at the upcoming NamesCon?
Contacting US Registrars and starting to fulfill their clients’ needs regarding Latin American Domain names.
How does your career compare to what you envisioned in your youth?
There was no Internet in my youth! I’m happy to continue to be related to the information science sphere, by participating of the Internet and its naming trends. All related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) is of interest to me, including new developments in the Internet of Things (IoT).
How would you describe what you do in a single sentence to a stranger?
Latin American Domain Name Portfolio management.
If you had fifteen extra minutes each day, what would you do with them?
Name 3 things you can’t travel without.
My notebook PC, two comfortable pairs of shoes and an Internet connection.
Where is your favourite place to escape?
Places where few people go, where one can find good food, breathtaking views and sunsets.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
“Everything can be solved in life, except death.” (Given to me by my mother when I was 9, when her parents died).
What is the one question we haven’t asked that you want to answer?
Are Latin American Registries same as a “.com”, “.net” or a “.org ” Registry?
No, they all function with varied levels of automation with their own bylaws!
Alfredo Pinochet is President of LatinTLD, a Registrar/Agent that focuses on the registration and management of domain name portfolios all across Latin America.
Alfredo founded LatinTLD with Natalia Viera in 2007, in order to offer the Domain Name Community a Customer Centered, Latin American, Domain Name Registrar. LatinTLD is a company dedicated to servicing our clients’ domains in Latin America and the Caribbean, and guiding them in ways to fulfill their needs in this region. LatinTLD has clients mainly in Europe, Asia, Australia/NZ and in the US. We are based in Santiago, Chile and have a network of correspondents in Latin America. We do all domain related services, i.e. Registrations (with and without the client’s Local Presence), Renewals, Contact and DNS updates, Registrant Transfers and special services like Domain Name Valuations and assisting our clients in Mediations and Arbitrations, as well as in Buying and Recovering domain names at any Latin American ccTLD.
Born in Buenos Aires in 1961, Alfredo has lived in Belgium, Russia, Japan and in Chile, from where he is a citizen. Alfredo is a Licentiate in Management from the Catholic University of Chile and holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering from Hiroshima University, where he specialized in Human-Computer Interaction and Man Machine interfaces in 1994. In 1995, upon returning to Chile, Alfredo led the team that produced the first daily web page for a Finance newspaper in Latin America for the Chilean newspaper called “Estrategia”
Alfredo currently lives in Santiago, Chile and enjoys reading and cycling in his free time. Married to Natalia Viera, Alfredo is father of two boys and a girl.
